Spotlight - Warren Berry
Name: Warren Berry
Nickname: Berry, Barry, Jose Mourinho
Education: Bergvliet Primary and Bergvliet High School
Rugby or sporting background:
Broke my neck as a 15 year old so alas no rugby background but have watched well over 95% of Coach VD's playing career so will claim that.
Villagers then made the change to Philip Herbstein when Good Mates Jono and Slab crossed over.
Position played or role if never played:
Never been involved in Rugby on any level before being asked to Manage the 1's a few years back.
A happy squad wins,I will do anything to make sure my players are comfortable, happy and ready to tackle opposition.
Eish, don't have one :(
Rugby highlight as a Manager:
2015 League Campaign as a whole was special and the way we ended vs UCT will live long in the memory.
Favourite Club Player:
Too many! Honestly I don't have favourites, every player gets the same treatment from me. If you wear Green, Red and White I enjoy watching your rugby and will help if I can.
So biased:) Jono vd Walt
Family background / make up:
Very happily married to the ever understanding Samantha Berry with an amazing 15 month old daughter Jessica.
How do you chill?
Spending alone time with my family and being active.
What are your aspirations for the Bay?
My rugby goals are simple, to have a HAPPY and SUCCESSFUL campaign. If we are not laughing and having fun along the way then it really isn't worth it. Besides that to lift some more silverware!!!
What is it about the Bay that inspires you?
Unconditional welcoming you receive. Within a month of the change to The Bay I had shared a beer and with many senior club members and felt part of the family and I wasn't even a player...the people I have met and friendships I have made over the years at the club is something special. Never pulled the Jersey on or earned the colours but feel a part of it.
What do you do to relax or what are your interests outside of rugby?
Quiet family time, spending time with friends, Golf, being active.
