False Bay RFC Women's Rugby Welcomes Zoe Naude

False Bay RFC has another Provincial player within its ranks.

Zoe Naude, has not only represented Western Province at Touch Rugby and Contact Rugby, she earned her SA Under 20 colours for the contact format too.

Now heading the False Bay drive to establish a Women’s Rugby section, Zoe is the ideal person to carry the mantle. She has played the touch rugby  game since 2013 and the contact format since 2017, having represented Western Province since then. Added to this, Zoe coaches and referees both formats, the latter a boon to newer converts to the game as they learn the sometimes confusing rules of the game.

It’s clear that Zoe isn’t someone who just loves the game, she lives it. She went to the Netherlands in 2018, where she coached, played and refereed the contact game and her resume includes three SA High Performance camps. Her first SA Under 20 cap was earned against the Springbok Women’s team.

“I recently started a business (Women's Rugby Inc.)  which will provide rugby workshops for girls in high school. Our aim is to promote female-rugby and empower girls and women through this wonderful sport”, says Zoe.

“My goal for the False Bay Women's team is to provide an environment for girls and women to safely learn and play the game of rugby”.

Zoe plans to start off with Sevens fixtures as the numbers grow, then Tens, moving on to friendly fifteens-format matches as the demand grows.

It’s clear that this new addition to the Bay’s playing bouquet is not just a dabble in the game, a “let’s see where this goes” project. With Zoe’s passion, determination and her own experience of the value of the sport, players will be developed and properly prepared to safely participate in the game and derive the pleasure that countless do from the sport.

So Ladies, if you have always wanted to play rugby; are keen to learn and enjoy the challenge of training and competition, while building friendships along the way; False Bay Women’s Rugby is your answer. The added bonus is joining a thriving club with a wonderful esprit de corps.

Practice takes place on Tuesdays at 6pm. Drop Zoe a line and find out more.
