FALSE BAY RUGBY CLUB

The heavy rains came early on Friday afternoon causing many fields across the Peninsula to become waterlogged, resulting in most games being postponed. Footy said he was pinged so many times from players wanting to play which is a positive sign as many guys have forgotten rugby is a winter sport often played in wet and cold conditions.

 

So no rugby to report back on Friday. The U20B game against Hamiltons has been moved to this Wednesday at the Bay. They will kick-off before the A side. We also welcome new coach Dewan Bronkhurst who is no stranger to the Bay (played 3’s / 4ths until injury ruled him out. He will be looking after the B / Reserve side for the season.

 

On Saturday 4 teams made the small trek to UCT. The 3rds got the afternoon activities underway in what is always a hard match against the students. Our lads did the basic’s right , executed their moves according to plan which delivered them with a tidy win. Final score 20-5 ( 2 tries – 1 )

 

Our 2’s with an incredibly strong & talented side are still trying to find their feet. With so much quality on display the guys are yet to hit their straps. the line-outs are still giving us head-aches & decision making has been questionable. On a positive note, they were the only team not to concede a try on the day but we woke up a little too late to finish 5-9 .  ( Bonus point )

 

The U20’s had their defences tested in the first half when UCT camped in our half. As Slab reminded me , these guys have been training together for over 4 months in the VC campaign so our boys can be proud of their display. A few calls going our way could have seen us neck and neck but a second try from the students saw us go down 10-17 ( 1 try – 2 ), another bonus point for the Bay. 

 

Our 1’s had to absorb the UCT onslaught for the first 20 minutes but it is something we have learnt to do quite well. The Bay were clinical in their performance scoring 6 tries to 4 & our physicality showed . Final score 42-22.
