SECOND XV BACK ON WINNING TRAIL

Manager Meagan Claasen sent us this short report.

It’s April 26th and the Bay Second XV head on down to Kuils River for their third fixture of 2014.

The team kicked off at 2:45pm ready to give the boys from Kuils River a go. A minute’s silence was held to pay respects to Mark Seeward, a true False Bay alumni. The players wore black armbands too.

This all contributed to a determination by the team to win big for False Bay.

The Bay started off with a bang, scoring 4 tries by Justin Whittaker, Marc Davids, Russell Steyn and Kenneth Africa in the first 30 minutes. Meyrick Ward converted 3 out of 4, some of them were very difficult but he definitely brought the right pair of boots along which added to his excellent all round performance.

The half time score was 26 – 0 to False Bay.

The second half was as entertaining as the first with False Bay running in a further 5 tries in the 35 minute period. Second half try scorers were Hyron Thyse, Kenneth Africa (2 tries in the game), Leighton Bezuidenhout, Vincent Kayster and Yusuf Williams. 2 out of 5 were converted (the Bay played into a stiff wind in the second half).

The final score was 65 -0 to False Bay and it was a comprehensive victory with some sparkling rugby and all the boxes ticked.

It’s unfair in such a performance to highlight individual performances, indeed the entire squad played well.

One unfortunate injury during the game, as Emile Olivier ended up tearing his hamstring rather early in the game.

Next up, Stellenbosch.
