About 53 children under the age of five die in South Africa every day — and three-quarters of them do not live to see their first birthday.

Most of these children die of preventable causes — with malnutrition a key driver of under-five mortality in South Africa. A total of 31% of children who died in hospital between 2012 and 2013 were severely malnourished and a further 30% were underweight for their age.

Imagine yourself as a child at school. You’re starving, unable to concentrate, your stomach hurts because your last meal was two nights ago... Imagine this is your child?  This is the reality of hunger in the lives of over 3 MILLION children in South Africa.

In addition to raising vital funds, the DirectAxis Walk For Hunger will generate awareness, renew hope and bring communities together for a purpose. We are calling on all our partners and suppliers to assist us in making this event a success.

31% of children who died in hospital between 2012 and 2013 were severely malnourished. Malnutrition is preventable and doesn’t only threaten a child’s survival, it undermines their ability to thrive and achieve their full potential.

Rise Against Hunger (formerly, Stop Hunger Now SA)

Rise Against Hunger (RAH) is an international organisation that distributes food and aid to the world’s most vulnerable, mobilising the necessary resources to end hunger.

The DirectAxis Walk For Hunger was started with the intention to increase awareness of hunger in South Africa, to raise much-needed funding, and to create a new market of volunteers for the labour-intensive meal-packing. DirectAxis Financial Services is covering the running costs of the event, ensuring that every cent donated by the public and every ticket fee goes straight into purchasing meals. Our target is 100 000 meals.
